A Stellar Mission

As you know, this month I am taking (31) steps to create a better blog, thanks to Javacia and her encouragement. Yesterday and today, our assignment was to write a mission statement and then change our “About Me” page to include that statement. I’m excited because I thought writing my mission was going to be very difficult, but as I started typing, it just flowed. My mission has been jostling around in my brain for some time, but I never put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).

Here’s what I came up with:

I want to use this blog as a source of motivation — for myself, for my readers — to find the strength to become stellar people, on the inside and the outside. Whether you’re trying to lose weight as I am, wanting to become more physically fit or learning to dress in a way that expresses your personality, I hope this can be a place for encouragement, support and the exchange of ideas. I believe that finding peace with your own body image — and by that I mean the full body: brain, heart, soul and the physical body that moves us through our world each day — is an important step in finding success in this life because if you can’t love yourself and move yourself forward, no one else will. It’s time to look at doing good things for ourselves as actually doing good for others in our lives. This blog will be a place where we can learn and explore how to live a stellar life — fashionably.

So that’s the deal! I’ve always felt that the main things I talk about on this blog — food issues, losing weight, fitness, fashion, dressing our bodies in the most flattering ways possible — are all part of a bigger picture. And that picture is to become better people, but not just on the outside. I’m a firm believer that doing good things for ourselves, our health and even our spirit (Volunteering! And … new shoes!) plays a huge part in our self-confidence and feeling that we’re living our lives to the fullest. I hope that’s reflected in my posts and if you ever need encouragement in a particular area, reach out to me! Living stellar lives is an ongoing experience — we learn, we make mistakes, we struggle and we overcome.

I’m happy to be on this journey with you!

About stellarfashionandfitness

I am Jennifer Dome, a 33-year-old woman living in Birmingham, Ala., miles from my Northeast-based family and some of my closest friends, but loving the Magic City, my BF and the friends I’ve made here in the South. I’ve lived in nine different states, plus London, and worked for some top-notch publications (Southern Living, Women’s Wear Daily) as a writer and copy editor. Now I am the assistant editor at a bass fishing magazine. I’ve struggled with my weight for as long as I remember, at one time tipping the scale at 289 pounds. At the end of 2009, weighing in at about 275, I started counting calories and exercising regularly, finally finding some success in this ongoing battle. After a scare from my doctor in early 2010, that success became even more important to my overall health. It’s still a challenge, and the scale definitely moves up and down instead of just down, but my confidence that I will reach my goal is solid.

  1. Wow! This is incredible. You really took this task and ran with it. You put my mission statement to shame! I’ve got to edit mine now. LOL I love that even your mission statement inspires one to strive to live a better life and be a stellar person. And if the mission statement does that then we know the blog will too!

This is a great mission statement. Echoing Javacia, you also put mine to shame. And with the new weight loss goal, I think I need to edit/revamp mine a bit anyway because I think that will be a bigger part of my life for the next year than I’m imagining. You ROCKED this and I am excited to continued motivation from you and your blog.
