Yeah, I may have just had a hissyfit.
The thing is, when you’re doing everything (seemingly) correctly and it doesn’t turn out as you wish, it can be a tad bit frustrating. This week, I didn’t do everything right, not by a long shot. But I stayed within my daily Weight Watchers points, ate my Flex Points as I should be able to, and I got a few workouts in.
And I gained a pound.
So, I marched that devious 6-year-old scale right to the trash chute, and shoved her down.
2/8/13
Last weigh-in: 253.5
Today: 254.5
Change: +1
I know I need to keep things in perspective. I know eating too many Flex Points does me in. Every time. I know that not all things are universal. While others may be able to eat ALL their Flex Points and still lose weight, I simply cannot. While others may be able to eat salty foods and not retain water, I simply cannot. While others don’t need to guzzle water like they’ve been lost in the dessert for four days, I simply do.
So, I am putting this hissyfit behind me. I am going into next week with these five main goals in mind:
1. regular workouts, at least 5 days out of 7
2. drink LOTS of water, lots and lots
3. eat no more than 4 Flex Points a day on top of my daily points (if any at all!)
4. avoid salty foods as much as possible
5. count EVERYTHING I eat, included alcoholic drinks, which I sometimes forget to count because I really don’t drink that often
Oh, and buy a new scale.

You can do it Jenni!
Thank you, Domka!! I’m in Wedding Weigh-Loss Mode already!
P.s. I’ll join you in the drinking lots of water challenge since I got reprimanded by my doctor this week for not drinking enough water during the day.
Yay! I’ll check in with you via Twitter to see how many glasses you’ve had each day & we can keep each other in check!
Alcoholic drinks can be deceptively caloric! RE: new scale, I suggest a digital bio impedance scale. Mine was only $30 (6 yrs ago) and I find it to be very accurate.
Yes they can, K! I’ll try this new scale you speak of. Sounds very scientific!
You’ll get back on track! Weight fluctuates 2-4 pounds depending on water retention, salt intake, etc, as you just said in your post. How do your clothes feel? How do *you* feel? Any different?
Next week we have our Wednesday running date, plus I’m sure you won’t be able to resist Gabe and his kickass Spin classes! Also if you’d like I will harass the hell out of you to drink water
Harrassment is most welcome! The good news is, I feel great! I threw myself into spinning class at Gold’s on Tues. & Thurs. & really tried to give it my all. And my clothes feel the same, so no better, no worse. As you said, it may just be water/salt. And after some drinks I had last weekend (which I don’t think I accounted for properly with WW points), I deserve a little gain. Unfortunately. My plan is to run this weekend, do Zumba, too. Then next week spinning, run with you, then spinning again. So that’s at least five workouts!
Another trick during the day when you’re stuck at work is to get up and walk around once an hour or so, if possible. Go pee (since you’re drinking so much water!), refill your water bottle, do a lap around the office. Park as far away in the parking lot as you can too – extra exercise!
Jen — I sincerely hope you meant to say “While others don’t need to guzzle water like they’ve been lost in the **dessert** for four days” because it’s some hilarious wordplay
Sadly, I am just seeing that typo now! I kinda want to leave it. It’s a total Freudian slip!!
My company just started a new health initiative, and they gave everyone who signed up a free FitBit, which is a pedometer that tracks calories as well. I am already obsessed with counting my steps, and it’s giving me a really good idea of how much sitting around and not moving I do. It’s helped me remember to get up and walk around every once in a while, and it really does make a difference! It sounds like you’re already doing everything else, but you probably don’t need/want ANOTHER tracking tool.
Actually, I’ve been wanting to get a FitBit! I like the competition aspect of it–competing with myself to move more, burn more calories. It’s one think I loved about the Nike running tool I used to use. Every time you ran faster or longer than you ever had, you got a congratulations message. It was fun!
