If you’re lucky enough to have friends like mine, then not only do you have exceptionally talented people in your life, you have friends who make you feel good about yourself.
And I don’t mean that they just blow smoke up your ass.
No, true friends really know you … and they really see you.
Thankfully, I have several really good friends who help me see the best in myself and, sometimes, they capture my best on camera.
This was true when Dominika, my high school friend of, gosh, 17 years now, took my photograph last weekend. I had planned to visit my family in Massachusetts for my niece’s 1st birthday party, but when the chance to tack on a full 24 hours with Domka was presented to me, I grabbed it quickly, knowing it had been far too long since we spent time together.
Dominika has been taking photos for as long as I can remember. Beautiful photos. And she now has her own photography business — Nika Photo (here’s the link to the blog she wrote about our session). I asked if she would mind taking a few photos for my blog, as my profile photos haven’t been updated in quite some time (like those men who post 15-year-old photos of themselves on dating websites).
Here’s her stunning work:
I’ve always been blessed to have Dominika as a friend because she’s kind, loyal and a great listener. Not to mention funny and a great shopping partner. But it’s something special to watch your best friend’s talent blossom and develop into something truly admirable. Thanks so much for these photos, Domka!
And let me tell you, when you’re feeling a little low about yourself and your self-esteem is waning, one awesome thing you can do is have a little photo shoot. If you’re not as lucky as I am to know a professional photographer like Dominika, just get a friend and the best camera you can get a hold of and play around. Seeing yourself in a different light can make all the difference!
