I think I’m actually a little late to the party on this one! This year, the palazzo pants have made a comeback. My friend Stephanie recently posted a photo of herself on Instagram in a fabulous pair of these, and I immediately said to myself, “Yes! Love these!” I can tell you from firsthand experience how comfortable these pants are because I feel like I lived in a pair I owned during the first couple years of high school.
Thankfully, it’s really easy to make palazzo pants look really stylish. But it’s also really easy to make them look like glorified PJs. Don’t fall into this trap! It’s all about proportions.
Yes, you can wear them with a breezy top, but make sure you also have on a structured jacket, such as this look here with this stunning leather bomber.
And structured blazers work really well, especially if you’re plus-size like I am. You can treat the palazzo pants like a maxi skirt and wear them high-waisted over a T-shirt, then add the blazer for structure and a bit of camouflage for your waist area.
While there are lots of styles out there, these patterned options bring in another hot trend — patterned pants! Pair them with solids on top, and they won’t seem so wild. These remind me of my beloved Gap palazzo pants that I wore with a longer tunic sweater.
As with maxi skirts, I want to add a word of caution here for plus-size girls: Be careful you don’t look like you’ve been swallowed up by yards of fabric. I guess that advice can go for anyone! With more voluminous styles, it’s easy to feel like you’re swimming in a piece of clothing. So be mindful of the fit and the items you pair these with, but also know that they’re made to be comfortable, yet chic. They work just as well with heels as with flats, depending on the length. So try them on and experiment, and welcome to the palazzo party!
