When it comes to building my wardrobe, winter isn’t usually a hard season for me. My birthday is in October, and then there’s Christmas, so new clothes this time of year tend to be plentiful, and also my favorite! I love jeans and boots and cozy sweaters.
So it’s not hard for me to talk winter clothes, but I know it’s not always easy to pull together workwear and weekend outfits. Here are some suggestions, including outerwear to keep you warm and toasty!
When it comes to workwear in cold weather, layers will be your friend. Here I’ve pulled together a nice blouse that can be worn with a colorful cardigan or a blazer, which can each be worn with flattering herringbone pants or a fun plaid skirt. Booties are great for winter because you can wear them with pants, skirts and dresses and with or without opaque tights.
Winter Weekend Outfits
When it comes to weekend outfits, I think of clothes I can mix and match, and again, layering is going to be key. Start with a plaid shirt that you can put a simple long-sleeve T under, or a pretty cable sweater over. Wear a puffy vest over a sweater, or a slim-fit tunic. Add a nicely cut pair of jeans, fuzzy boots and a pretty necklace. A colorful pair of flats are a good option, too, if you live somewhere without much snow!
Stylish Winter Outerwear
When it comes to jackets for the 2015-16 season, plaid is where it’s at. Add in something quilted, a dressy but colorful wool coat or a fun puffer with fur trim, and you’re all set for temps that range from chilly to below zero. I’m a sucker for a fair isle print, so add a little pattern to your look with knit scarves and hats, and keep gloves neutral so you can buy a plush, warm pair to go with all your outerwear.
All the outfits you see here come from Talbots’ plus-size line. Many items are available in straight sizes, too. (This isn’t a sponsored post; I’m just loving the classic pieces Talbots has to offer right now!)
