Ms. New Beauty

I’m not going to lie, I love this Bubba Sparxxx 2005 classic. I mean, any song by someone with three Xs in his name has to be a hit, right?

But I digress. Beauty products — I love ’em, but I also tend to get caught in a rut with them. I will find something that works and stick with it for years, sometimes using the same eyeshadow or eyeliner for way longer than is healthy.

Same goes with cleansers and moisturizers — after I recently had a bad reaction to a face mask that had been hiding in my stash of samples, I switched to using Cetaphil for my cleanser, since it’s really mild, and Oil of Olay for moisturizer, because it has SPF. Yes, I am 36 and I was still using a moisturizer without sun protection. Bad, Jennifer!

These new supplies have also spurred me to get some new beauty products, too, seeing as I can’t actually remember what year I purchased my eyeshadow, eyeliner and concealer. Not to mention I think I’ve been using the same makeup brushes since college, with very little cleaning. I know it’s gross, so I’m trying to fix it!

Here’s my loot!

I purchased a new concealer from Cover FX in G Light — I generally don’t wear liquid foundation, so I thought concealer was a good start. I wanted to use a brush to apply a little concealer on my tricky spots and then use my favorite powder (MAC Studio Fix) on top.

I also bought some pretty eye makeup, including my favorite eyeliner, which has been upgraded since I last bought it! The Stila Smudge Stick in black amethyst is going to be a fun purple shade to use. I also finally bought the Urban Decay Naked palette — the Basics edition. Plus, I needed new brushes, clearly, so I splurged for a nice Sephora brand set.

Here’s me all made up with some of my new purchases!

Do you ever feel like your beauty products need a refresher? What are some of your tried-and-true products and some you really want to try?

Looking good Jenni! I love the Naked eyeshadow, I have the original pallet and Naked 2, was thinking of getting the 3 or the smokey eye from them too, but I’ll hold off since nowadays I hardly ever wear makeup. Another brand I loved is SmashBox they have a slew of great concealers for all kinds of skin problems and since they are designed for the photography industry in mind originally, I used to use it on my models a lot because they didn’t reflect light or look shiny. I’m going to have to try the Stilla smudge stick you recommend, I’ve been using CoverGirl pencils forever….and eyeliner is usually the only thing I put on if I wear any makeup at all.

So pretty and fresh-faced! You’re lucky that you don’t need foundation. What do you have on your lips? I feel like mine fade into the rest of my face without some sort of tint, but I don’t always like wearing heavy lipstick.

Also, this punny title gets my stamp of approval!
