Blast! This month I am doing a writing challenge with my blogging group, See Jane Write, where we write a post every day. And somehow I missed yesterday’s #bloglikecrazy post! Ack!
I guess that’s what happens when you workout, go to a Mary Kay makeup party (more on that later), watch football, see a movie and eat hibachi. You plum forget to write!
But I didn’t forget to read yesterday!
Write now I’m in the middle of two books: Luvvie Ajayi’s “I’m Judging You” and Gillian Flynn’s “Dark Places.”
“I’m Judging You” starts out hilarious and then dives deep into issues of body positivity, racism, rape culture and more. It’s fascinating, and I intend to catch up on Ajayi’s blog, too. She’s insightful and funny and doesn’t hold back. My kind of writer!
“Dark Places” is, well, creepy AF. I enjoyed the mystery of “Gone Girl,” so I decided to read Flynn’s “Sharp Objects,” which I also liked. But “Dark Places” is a lot … darker. It is grilling, though, and I’m in that spot of the book where I just can’t wait to find out what really happened.
More recommendations that I’ve recently read:
“Eleanor and Park” by Rainbow Rowell — a sweet love story and sad look at poverty and abuse.
“Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo” by Amy Schumer — funny and relatable from start to finish.
“You and Me, Always” by Jill Mansel — my new favorite chick lit author when I need a fun escape.
What are you reading lately?
